Cultivated Chaos

They wait
Patient and confident
In their swallowing tombs

Whispers of confidence
Caressing
Whimpers of despair

“Be brave.”
“God, help us.”

Huddled, frightened, cold
Subordinates to the cause
Accepting deeply, what they say
Led, unwittingly, through mortar and stone

Whispers of hope
Reassuring
Whimpers of acceptance

“It will be over soon.”
“It will be over soon.”

Fear rimmed eyes
In night shirts and slippers
Running, dragged, falling
Lost to us
In a child’s nightmare
Come true

We do tend to cultivate our chaos quite orderly, don't we? Very emotional writing...were you there?
Yes, it almost seems.

Will we ever be there- I hope not...but don't have too great a hope we will never not.

Off subject:

I tagged you. I'm apologizing in advance. See my blog and follow orders (just do it, OK?)
